Accident.1985.Kannada.

He was a spoiled son. Motherless so that father's careless. And, because of his political career, the dad didn't focus on his son much. The son had a close friend whose mother was alone and had some suspicious life. One fateful night both of them went on dark road, crazily. First they attended a party in which liquor overflowed. They could not get a girl there. Increased frustration. He returned back to drop his friend in his house. He didn't go back. They travelled again. Under the darkness of late night, under the effect of drugs, under peace less mind, under the raging young blood, he drove his imported white Plymouth car under no control. Time flew. Suddenly, to avoid hitting the fire engine which was coming from opposite side, he steered the wheels near ninety degrees. The long car tires screeched on the platform and crushed nearly twenty people who was sleeping there. They were pulled down from their dreams into a dark red bloodshed. One survived from death and turned as the only eye witness.

No, this is not a news bit about some of contemporary happenings.

Welcome to the movie 'Accident', a 1985 Kannada film by Shankarnag.

With the help of a helpless inspector Ramesh Bhat, Shankarnag as a journalist tried to tear down the screens which were tied by the creepy politician Anantnag, to show the hidden truth behind them. During the election time, Anantnag smelled this accident case could become a big obstacle on his political path. Arundhatinag, the mother of the friend, who brought this case to his attention suggested to send the sons abroad to avoid any limelight on them. The head of police advised Ramesh to drop the case because of political pressure. Anantnag pushed a longtime servant in his house as a 'driver' on that night. Case closed.
Did Shankarnag satisy with this turn? What the only eye witness could do? Did the arrogant son live scot free? Watch this brilliant movie.
In this song free film, Ilaiyaraja shown his full calibre in the form of his forte, BGM. And, Shankarnag's direction skills and the characterisation shined in many scenes.

Even though they were close, the inspector signalled the doctor to avoid telling the complete details to the journalist.
For the journalist, everything is an 'explosive' news.
To avoid the question of 'why a journalist has a gun?', a scene arrived very earlier in a very un important scene.
Initially inspector mentioned about his two daughters and at the end in his house two daughters were shown.
.. and much more.

In my opinion, the prime of the movie is Anantnag. Here, we could see the ever charming Anantnag in a near villainic portrait. His mannerisms, powerful eyes, controlled emotional dialogue deliveries proved him.
One of the cult movies in Kannada, which can be suggested to the new comers to watch and get into the feel of old glorious days of KFI.

Thanks.

PS: The movie reminded me Sujatha's '24 ruubaay thiivu' in which a journalist was hunted by many elements of society because he had a diary which could shake their life to the core.
